Manitoba Pork Says Passage Of Bill 24 Will Streamline Barn Construction

Manitoba Pork is welcoming the passage of Bill 24 by the Government of Manitoba last week.

The bill removed the unnecessary and expensive requirement for anaerobic digestors to be constructed with new hog barns.

"This draws to a close a period in time which was very hard for the industry to develop and build its infrastructure," commented General Manager Andrew Dickson. "Getting rid of these anaerobic digestors is like throwing the shackles off a prisoner."

Dickson says while this bill will make things easier for producers to go through the application process, the hog industry has had protocols in place for about two years which bypassed the need for an anaerobic digestor.
