Manufacturing Sales Break Records in May

Saskatchewan’s manufacturers continue to impress in the global marketplace after another thriving month of sales according to reports issued by Statistics Canada.

Shipments for May hit a record-breaking $1.5 billion (seasonally adjusted).  This was a 2.4 per cent increase over April 2014 and the second highest growth rate among the provinces.

“Communities across this great province are reaping the benefits of a growing manufacturing sector,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said.  “Every time a manufacturer starts production and sees that product through the development process and into the marketplace, we are all benefitting from the economic growth and prosperity it generates.”

On a yearly basis, Saskatchewan’s manufacturing shipments jumped 4.8 per cent and landed the province in fifth place in terms of percentage change.

“Our government understands that in order to keep our province’s manufacturers moving forward, we must champion their success and make investments in their future,” Boyd said.  “This is why we are excited to see projects like the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence get off the ground.
