MB Pork Hands Out Awards, Executive Positions

Manitoba Pork has elected its 2015 executive.

Stonewall-area producer George Matheson was elected chair of Manitoba Pork following the organization's Annual General Meeting on April 15, 2015 in Winnipeg.

Matheson began as a delegate in 1997 and served as a director from 2006 to the present.

Vice-Chair Rick Bergmann of Steinbach and Executive Member Scott Peters of Randolph were re-elected, while Director Rick Prejet of Notre Dame de Lourdes was elected for the first time as an executive member.

Newly elected to the board during the meeting were Directors-At-Large Lyle Peters of Randolph and Calvin Penner of Argyle. Edward Stahl of Grass River Colony was elected as a director for the North Star Producers District.

Other directors on the board are James Hofer of Hutter Schwein District, Glen Gratton of Maple Leaf Agri-Farms, and Claude Vielfaure of Hylife.

Manitoba Pork also presented its 2015 Pork Industry Awards at the meeting.

The awards are given out annually to individuals, groups and organizations in recognition of their significant contributions.

The Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association was recognized for exemplary leadership of Manitoba’s swine practitioners in addressing disease challenges and protecting the health status of the Manitoba swine herd.

Outgoing Chair Karl Kynoch was recognized for outstanding commitment, dedication and service to pork producers in Manitoba.

"The swine practitioners of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association led the pork industry relatively unscathed through the PEDv challenges of 2014. Karl Kynoch provided tireless leadership through 11 years as chair of Manitoba Pork," said Manitoba Pork Vice-Chair Rick Bergmann. "These two very different recipients have contributed in their own way to the success of our industry."
