Meet the Canadian Foundation for Food and Agricultural Education Agricultural Institute of Canada Foundation Changes Name

Board President Dr. Janice Elmhirst today announced that the Agricultural Institute of Canada Foundation (AICF) has been renamed the Canadian Foundation for Food and Agricultural Education/Fondation canadienne pour l’éducation alimentaire et agricole.

Highly regarded in the educational community, the Foundation has changed its name to help it develop new scholarship opportunities for Canadian university and college students majoring in agriculture and food.

The Foundation’s mission and national scholarship programs will remain the same. These scholarships have provided financial support to scores of promising students in the past 30 years. It will now also focus on development of new scholarships in areas such as experiential learning, international study, sustainable agriculture, indigenous agricultural development, as well as entrance scholarships.

“We want to raise our profile in Canada’s agricultural community,” said Dr. Elmhirst.
“Technology and climate change will profoundly affect agriculture and food production in the coming decades. The world is on the verge of a new green revolution and Canadian scientists will be at the forefront. We seek new partnerships with individuals, industry and colleges/universities to expand our scholarship program and attract the best young talent.”

CFFAE has developed a formal working relationship with the Association of Canadian Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine with whom it will consult and share ideas on new scholarship programs.

The Foundation was established in 1987 and continues as a registered charitable organization under its new name. All donations are tax deductible.
