Michigan August Agricultural Prices

Prices received by Michigan farmers for the full month of August 2015 are listed in the table below. Some Michigan highlights were: August corn, at $3.69 per bushel, decreased $0.19 from July and increased $0.14 from last year; August soybeans, at $10.40 per bushel, increased $0.20 from las t month and decreased $2.00 from last year; August wheat, at $5.67 per bushel, decreased $0.05 from July and decreased $0.04 from last year; August milk, at $16.00 per cwt., increased $0.10 from last month, and decreased $8.40 from last year.

The August P rices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 102, increased 3.0 percent from July. At 88, the Crop Production Index increased 2.3 percent. At 117, the Livestock Production Index increased 1.7 percent. Producers received higher prices for market eggs, lettuce, strawberries, and apples but lower prices for broilers, wheat, onions, and hay.

In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the monthly mix of commodities producers market. Increased monthly movement of cattle, grapes, calves, and hogs o ffset the decreased marketing of wheat, soybeans, corn, and hay. The Prices Received Index is down 6.4 percent from the previous year. The Food Commodities Index, at 110, increased 3.8 percent from the previous month but is down 9.1 percent from August 20 14.
