Minister Ritz Reminds Canadians to Celebrate Food Day Canada

By , Farms.com

Food Day Canada is fast approaching and Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz has already started to remind Canadians to gear up for the big day. Food Day Canada celebrations have been going on for nine years and was an initiative that was started in response to the U.S. boarders being closed to Canadian beef in 2003. Back then, the day was marked by the World’s Longest Barbeque – it was a huge success and still continues today on every August long weekend. The day has also expanded to include the celebration of all Canadian food and has hundreds of participating restaurants from across the country.

"Food Day Canada is a yearly reminder of what can be achieved when farmers, food producers, retailers, and restaurants come together to deliver safe, high-quality Canadian food to families across Canada and around the world,” said Ritz.

Minister Ritz reminds Canadian consumers to remember where their food comes from "our farmers and food processors create some of the most delicious, safest, and freshest food products found on dinner plates around the world."

Join in on the excitement; celebrate Canada’s rich cultural diversity with our fellow countrymen and women and remember how fortunate we are to live in a country that produces the best quality food for all of us to enjoy.
