Minister's Statement - Regulation 441

With more than $100 million in annual farm revenue, Ontario's processing vegetable sector is an important part of our $37-billion agri-food industry.

To better support growth and innovation in the processing vegetable sector, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission (Commission) proposed updates to Regulation 441, under the Farm Products Marketing Act, which paves the way for changes to the governance structure of the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers.

I want to thank all those who took the time to submit their input during the 45-day public comment period, and am pleased that the Commission took public feedback into account to present a revised Regulation 441, which I have approved.

This revised regulation will allow a new board to be in place for the 2018 negotiations. The updates being made are aligned with current best practices employed by other marketing boards in the Province of Ontario.

I would like to thank the Commission for its work to build a stronger regulated marketing sector in the province, a system which our government continues to unwaveringly support and uphold.

Working together, we will continue to support growth and innovation in the processing vegetable sector.
