The Agri-Food Management Institute (AMI) welcomed three new directors to the board while thanking two outgoing directors for their contributions at its May 18th annual general meeting.
Incoming directors include Andrea Gal, who is Managing Editor of the Better Farming Magazine and provides business management support for her family farm. Chris Hiemstra, a primary producer in honey bees and agri-tourism and current Vice Chair of the Agricultural Adaptation Council also joined and Jim Gracie, who has held various senior executive positions across the agri-food sector and currently works as an independent.
“We are very excited at the opportunity to work with these new board members and leverage their industry experience to help us continue to improve delivery of our programs and services,” said Doug Alexander, Chair of the AMI Board. “We are continually working to innovate on the delivery of business management focused projects and programs, and incorporating new ideas and perspectives is essential to that process.”
AMI promotes new ways of thinking about agribusiness management. It develops business management tools, information, resources, and training for agri-food and agri-based producers, processors, and their business advisors. AMI also creates links to existing resources and conducts research for the industry.
Leaving the board is Vice President Frank Hoftyzer, a grains producer who has also been a director on the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association and is very active in the agricultural community.
“AMI will continue to move forward and will innovate in its approach to fulfill its mandate. Each member of this board is asked to bring their expertise to the table and at the same time leave their personal agendas at the door,” Hoftyzer said. “That is what has helped AMI deliver on the mission of stimulating ideas and leading projects to increase understanding and adoption of business management practices.”
Jim Snyder, National Director Agriculture Practice Development at BDO Canada, farmer and “recovering John Deere dealer,” is also leaving the AMI board. Both Snyder and Hoftyzer have been directors for six years.
