Working in partnership with the agriculture industry, this year's forum will cover what government and industry are doing to reduce antimicrobial resistance. Speakers will showcase examples of successful commodity organizations and individual producers to demonstrate how others can make effective changes.

 

Agenda

9:00-9:10 a.m. - Introduction/Welcome - Dr. Greg Douglas, Chief Veterinarian for Ontario, Jennifer MacTavish, Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency

9:10-9:20 a.m.  - OMAFRA's Efforts to Impact Antimicrobial Resistance in Ontario, Dr. Maureen Anderson, Veterinary Science and Policy, OMAFRA

9:20-10:20 a.m. - Keynote Speaker: Jason Tetro "The Germ Guy"
Microbiologist, author, and public speaker, Jason frequently presents on antimicrobial resistance. He works with the World Health Organization on infection control in humans. He has also worked with the International Joint Commission for the Great Lakes on a soil and water initiative, advocating progress on Antimicrobial Resistance. He firmly believes that staying positive with the message is critical and that positive industry leadership needs to come first, before regulation.

10:20-10:50 a.m.  - How Will the Federal Changes Affect Producers?

10:50-11:00 a.m. - Break/Networking Opportunity

11:00-12:00 a.m. - Producer Panel: Showcasing the Efforts of Producers to Reduce and Track Antimicrobial Use, followed by Panel Discussion/Q&A
Direction and initiatives producers and their organizations are taking to encourage reduction in antimicrobial use.

12:00-1:00 p.m. - Enjoy a delicious hot lunch. Dietary options available.

1:00-2:00 p.m. - Veterinary Panel
Successes in alternative approaches, and challenges in working with clients to reduce antimicrobial use/resistance.

2:00-2:15 p.m.  - Break/Networking Opportunity

2:15-3:15 p.m.  - Processor/Value Chain Panel: Efforts to Reduce Antimicrobials and Enhance Consumer Safety, followed by Panel Discussion/Q&A
Market demand and opportunities, programs, product lines and processor challenges in the current legislative and operational environment.

3:15-3:30 p.m. - Key Take-Aways: Jason Tetro

4:15-5:00 p.m. - Summary and Closing - Dr. Greg Douglas
