OMAFRA Trying To Balance Bees/Crops

OMAFRA scientists are looking for ways to protect honey bees from pesticides.

Neonic pesticides are being blamed by some for bee die offs when they’re used during spring planting.

Growers say the neonics are valuable for protecting their crops.

OMAFRA’s Tracey Baute says the ministry is looking at two main ways to protect the bees.

One is to find ways to keep the neonics from escaping in dust from the fields during application.

The other would be to keep the neonics from escaping the seeds completely by coating those seeds with a sort of polymer.
