Canola farmers across the country are worrying over Health Canada’s proposed ban on the use of Lamba-cyhalothrin, a widely-used insecticide.

Lamba-cyhalothrin, commonly known as Matador from Syngenta, helps control pests such as flea beetles, cutworms, bertha armyworms and diamondback moths, according to an August release from the Alberta Canola Producers Commission.

Producers have until Sept. 21 to share their comments with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), a branch of Health Canada responsible for pesticide regulation.

The Grain Growers of Canada has created a letter for producers to fill out to send to both the PMRA and local Members of Parliament. The letters include a request for adjustment in the timelines to allow appropriate data to be submitted for review.

Farms.com has reached out to the Canola Council of Canada for comment.
