Province Announces KAP Funding Review

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister and Provincial Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler gave their keynote addresses Tuesday at Manitoba Ag Days in Brandon.

Eichler announced the government’s commitment to immediately begin consultations as part of a review of the funding structure of Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP).

“The current check-off funding structure creates needless administrative costs for farmers, KAP and purchasers of agricultural products,” said Eichler.  “A review of the system has long been requested.  Our government is listening to Manitobans and we are pleased to be taking this step today.”

The premier also announced Manitoba’s soon-to-be-revealed green plan will include an overall water management strategy, with measures to address drainage, pursue precision farming to ensure better management of nutrient run-off, accommodate the storage of excess water and ensure the retention of valuable wetlands.
