Public Interest in Food and Agriculture Grows

By Bruce Cochrane.

The CEO of Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan says there's  a growing interest among the non-farming public in agriculture and in how our food is produced.

Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan is accepting nominations until the end of this month for its first "Food & Farming Champion" Award.

Adele Buettner, the CEO of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan, explains the new award will be presented at the organization's annual meeting in December to an individual, organization or business who has taken the initiative to engage consumers about agriculture in Saskatchewan.

Adele Buettner-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:

Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan is a provincial organization that is a whole sector coalition made up of farm families, agribusiness, food processors, restaurant retailers, food companies and others that are involved in the agriculture industry.

Together we help to tell the stories of the farmers who work hard to grow the fresh Saskatchewan food that we enjoy so much that's on our tables but also tables around the world.

We know that the non-farming audience is interested in agriculture because we know they want to know more about their food and food, of course, is agriculture.

The interest is there.

We see an increase in our consumer trend polls that we do that there's an elevated level in interest from non-farmers so we want to engage that and look at that as an opportunity.

Buettner says the "Food & Farming Champion" award is an opportunity for the industry to recognize a person or persons who have worked hard to promote Saskatchewan agriculture and help build public trust with the non-farming community.
