Grade 12 students and recent high-school graduates pursuing agriculture-based post-secondary education in 2016 are eligible to apply for one of four Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarships.

Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture Lyle Stewart announced the scholarships and outlined a theme for the contest.

“This year’s scholarship theme, Stewards in Sustainability, is designed to get young people thinking about the relationship between agriculture and the environment,” Stewart said in a press release.  “With this scholarship, passionate youth will have the opportunity to pursue careers in the many professions that the industry has to offer.”

Applicants are encouraged to enter by completing an application form and submitting a three-minute video or 1,000 word essay – both with a focus on agriculture and sustainability. Examples of topics include the role of technology in sustainable agriculture, stories of environmental success and the part younger generations play in sustainability.

For students who receive the scholarship, it acts as a foundation for their educational and career development.

"This scholarship is such a generous and amazing opportunity for students who are starting their agricultural education,” winner of the 2015 Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship Morgan Heidecker said.  “Simply completing the application myself -- which was in the form of a video -- made me realize how excited I am to pursue my future career in the agriculture industry!  I'd definitely recommend that anyone who's interested in it apply!"

There are four scholarships eligible to be won: one valued at $4,000 and three others valued at $2,000 each.

The deadline to complete the application form is March 1st, 2016.
