SaskPower Urges Farmers To Be Cautious Around Power Lines

Saskatchewan farmers are making good progress in the fields.

But with the focus on trying to get the crop in, SaskPower is reminding producers to make effort to be safe.

Over the last few weeks, SaskPower says it has received numerous reports of power line contacts.  So far in 2017, SaskPower has received notification of 51 contacts, with 25 of those occurring in the last two weeks.

Jonathon Tremblay is a spokesperson with SaskPower. He says it’s critical people know how serious it is to collide with a power line.

“It’s not only a question of ramming into a pole accidentally and tearing down a line,”said Tremblay. “But there are serious risks of getting out of machinery if a torn-down line is on top of it.”

Tremblay says it’s fortunate no one has been seriously injured or killed, but stresses the danger is real.
