Statement by CRFA President Regarding Ontario’s Climate Change Mitigation and Low-Carbon Economy Act

Ms. Andrea Kent, President of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association, released the bfollowing statement concerning the Government of Ontario passing Bill 172, the Climate Change mMitigation and Low-Carbon Economy Act:

“This important legislation, coupled with early indications that Ontario is considering increased biofuels blending volumes as part of its Climate Change Action Plan, showcases the government’s strong climate
leadership that the renewable fuels industry continues to support.

Including biofuels in the early draft of the Climate Change Action Plan acknowledges the fact that biofuels are the quickest route to GHG emission reductions in the transport sector. Liquid fuels will be nm nrequired for years to come, while the potential of other renewable energy sources and electric vehicles are being harnessed sufficiently. Biofuels may also be the only option for the heavy duty sector to reduce mits GHG emissions in the longer term. The more renewable fuels we use, the greater the reductions in GH emissions from the transportation sector will be.

The renewable fuels industry waits with anticipation for the release of the final version of the Ontario\ Climate Change Action Plan and forthcoming cap and trade program.”
