Stewart Valley Community Project Donates To Canadian Foodgrains Bank

The combines were rolling yesterday at the Stewart Valley Community Project.

It’s one of two projects organized by the Grasslands Foodgrain Growing Committee in the South West.

Committee Member Bruce Pate says this year they seeded the land to Small Red Lentils

"We are going to get about over thirty bushels to the acre and sell them for at least twenty dollars a bushel. So at least sixty thousand dollars will be donated to the Canadian Food Grains Bank to help feed hungry people."

Pate says they are very thankful for the community support for the project

"They were desiccated about a week ago by Monette Farms and then Deer Range farms started harvesting them yesterday afternoon around 5:00pm. We went till about 11:00pm last night and today we are unloading the truck to Neil Galey and he is going to haul it in to Swift Current this morning to Viterra. Sample looks great and we are very grateful for god blessing us with a great crop."
