Corn planting was 72% done, near last year's 74% and the five-year average of 70%; By Sunday, May 13, 26% had emerged, near 28% last year and the average of 25%, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Nationally, 62% of the US corn crop has been planted, compared to just 39% last week and 68% this time last year. Approximately 28% of the US crop had emerged, similar to last year's 29% and the five-year average of 27%.
Soybeans planting was 41% done, ahead of 34% last year and the average of 29%. Five percent had emerged, near 3% last year and the average of 2%.
Nationally, 35% of the US soybean crop has been planted, ahead of last week's 15% and last year's 29%.
Winter wheat condition rated 10% excellent, 54% good, 29% fair, 6% poor, and 1% very poor. Winter wheat headed was at 1%, well behind last year's 28%, and behind the five-year average of 15%.
Sorghum planted was 17%, near 13% last year and the average of 14%.
Oats planted was at 88%, behind 98% last year and the average of 96%. Emerged was 71%, well behind 92% last year, and the average of 83%.
Pasture and range conditions rated 3% very poor, 9 poor, 38 fair, 47 good, and 3 excellent.
Soil Moisture. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 22% short, 71% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 4% very short, 25% short, 70% adequate, and 1% surplus.
