U. S. Weekly Export Sales Highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period March 20-26, 2009.

Wheat:  Net sales of 283,500 metric tons were up 7 percent from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Taiwan (93,100 MT), Thailand (50,600 MT), Japan (33,800 MT), the Philippines (25,700 MT, including decreases of 26,000 MT), unknown destinations (20,500 MT), Portugal (17,000 MT), and Peru (16,300 MT, including 15,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for Algeria (16,000 MT), Italy (12,000 MT), and Panama (5,100 MT).  Net sales of 100,400 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly for South Korea (43,900 MT), Algeria (16,000 MT), and Italy (15,000 MT).  Exports of 376,700 MT were down 37 percent from the previous week and 6 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (118,000 MT), Nigeria (83,600 MT), Venezuela (50,300 MT), Cuba (26,500 MT), Costa Rica (24,300 MT), and the Philippines (19,700 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 1,251,300 MT were up 5 percent from the previous week and 42 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (404,700 MT, including 84,300 MT switched from unknown destinations and 20,800 MT late reporting), South Korea (332,000 MT), Mexico (139,700 MT), Taiwan (71,600 MT), Colombia (58,800 MT), Cuba (50,000 MT), and the Dominican Republic (39,500 MT).  Decreases were reported for Egypt (7,000 MT).  Net sales of 8,100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Japan.  Exports of 994,400 MT were up 28 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (385,900 MT), Mexico (135,200 MT), Colombia (81,500 MT), Venezuela (79,000 MT), Egypt (60,500 MT), South Korea (57,800 MT), Peru (35,200 MT), and Guatemala (34,500 MT).  

Barley:  There were no sales or exports reported during the week.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 18,700 MT were mainly for Mexico (15,400 MT) and unknown destinations (3,000 MT).  Exports of 69,700 MT were for Mexico (55,200 MT) and Japan (14,500 MT).   

Rice:  Net sales of 66,300 MT were down 68 percent from the previous week and 37 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (24,700 MT), Mexico (18,500 MT), Nicaragua (5,000 MT), the United Kingdom (3,800 MT), and Guatemala (3,000 MT).  Exports of 119,900 MT--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and 72 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Colombia (35,500 MT), Mexico (31,200 MT), New Guinea (11,200 MT), Nicaragua (9,500 MT), and Saudi Arabia (8,200 MT).  

Soybeans:  Net sales of 599,800 MT were up 40 percent from the previous week and 53 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (131,100 MT), Japan (116,200 MT, including 45,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and 27,700 MT late reporting), Indonesia (77,400 MT), unknown destinations (72,700 MT), China (57,800 MT), and Taiwan (38,900 MT).  Net sales of 581,100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for China (412,000 MT), unknown destinations (168,000 MT), and Japan (1,100 MT).  Exports of 750,100 MT were up 52 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (369,800 MT), Japan (124,100 MT), Egypt (82,000 MT), Mexico (67,500 MT), Syria (41,200 MT), Morocco (25,000 MT), and Colombia (8,000 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 106,900 MT were down 24 percent from the previous week and 3 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for the Dominican Republic (20,300 MT), Canada (17,900 MT), Mexico (16,200 MT), Peru (11,000 MT), Turkey (8,000 MT), and Yemen (7,200 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Japan (3,000 MT) and Panama (1,700 MT).  Net sales of 100 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were for Canada.  Exports of 114,900 MT were down 44 percent from the previous week and 31 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (31,000 MT), Canada (15,900 MT), Guatemala (12,300 MT), Colombia (11,900 MT), Peru (11,000 MT), Honduras (7,000 MT), and Vietnam (5,500 MT).

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 62,000 MT--a marketing-year high--were primarily for India (35,000 MT), Morocco (28,100 MT, including 21,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and the Dominican Republic (8,000 MT, including 4,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (15,000 MT).  Exports of 31,800 MT--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Morocco (18,100 MT), Mexico (4,100 MT), and the Dominican Republic (4,000 MT). 

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 403,200 running bales were up 26 percent from the previous week and 52 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (121,300 RB), Indonesia (58,400 RB), China (57,200 RB), Pakistan (44,000 RB), Turkey (33,000 RB), Taiwan (20,000 RB),  Hong Kong (13,200 RB), and Thailand (12,200 RB).  Net sales of 22,900 RB for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly for Turkey (8,700 RB), Mexico (7,100 RB), and Indonesia (5,700 RB).  Exports of 297,900 RB--a marketing-year high--were up 45 percent from the previous week and 40 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (110,600 RB), Mexico (41,900 RB), Vietnam (21,900 RB), Indonesia (20,200 RB), Thailand (18,200 RB), and Pakistan (15,400 RB).  Net American Pima Sales of 6,300 RB were mainly for China (4,300 RB), Hong Kong (500 RB), Thailand (400 RB), and Bangladesh (400 RB).  Exports of 2,100 RB were mainly to Indonesia (700 RB), South Korea (500 RB), and Thailand (400 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 662,000 pieces were down 24 percent from the previous week, but up 13 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 646,100 pieces were primarily for China (303,900 pieces), South Korea (131,600 pieces), Taiwan (91,100 pieces), Thailand (64,300 pieces), and Hong Kong (23,900 pieces).  Exports of 562,000 pieces were down 1 percent from the previous week, but up 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 557,000 pieces were primarily to China (279,000 pieces), South Korea (154,400 pieces), Taiwan (40,600 pieces), Hong Kong (23,700 pieces), Japan (18,200 pieces), and Mexico (17,400 pieces).

Net sales of 328,900 wet blues--a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Italy (165,700 unsplit), China (79,800 unsplit and 60,900 grain splits), Thailand (18,800 unsplit), and Mexico (12,900 grain splits and 100 unsplit).  Decreases were reported for Hong Kong (10,000 unsplit) and Taiwan (2,800 unsplit).  Exports of 121,200 hides were up 58 percent from the previous week and 53 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (51,100 unsplit and 6,400 grain splits), Mexico (21,400 grain splits and 4,100 unsplit), Italy (17,900 unsplit), and Taiwan (7,100 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 138,300 pounds resulted as increases for Hong Kong (150,000 pounds) were partially offset by decreases for China (11,700 pounds).  Exports of 358,300 pounds were down 13 percent from the previous week, but up 7 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were South Korea (270,000 pounds) and China (88,300 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 5,500 MT were primarily for Mexico (3,600 MT), Canada (1,100 MT), and Taiwan (400 MT).  Exports of 6,200 MT were mainly to Mexico (3,000 MT), Canada (1,200 MT), and Japan (700 MT).
