Bank of America Partners With HSUS on Credit Card Offer

Now, having a checking account can make a difference, but it’s not a good one for pork producers or anyone else involved with animal agriculture for that matter.

The Bank of America is offering consumers a HSUS Bank of America checking account so they can “celebrate your love of animals with every purchase you make using your HSUS Bank of America VISA® Check Card.*

In essence, 25 cents will go to HSUS for every $100 charged to the card.

President and CEO of The HSUS Wayne Pacelle says, "This is a great way to support the work of The Humane Society of the United States. When you open your account, and each time you make an eligible purchase with your Bank of America VISA check card, you'll support our mission to combat animal cruelty and care for animals in need," he says. Those who sign up will receive a free HSUS t-shirt after a qualifying purchase.

Let the Bank of America know this partnership is a poor decision. The Cattle Network has suggested a letter (below) to use as a guide. Producers and others with an interest in animal agriculture are encouraged to write.

Dear Bank of America, Date:

I have become aware that you support the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) through a credit card program that gives 25 cents to the HSUS for every 100 dollars charged to the credit card.

I urge you to reconsider this support since the HSUS is an Animal Rights (AR) group that many confuse with local ‘Humane Society’ shelters. However, Human Society of United States is not affiliated with any of them. They are a powerful well funded AR group, who instead of helping shelters and animals directly, works hard on eventually removing pets from our homes, meat from our tables, leather goods from our closets and animals from zoos and circuses.

The HSUS is similar to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in its’ goals…No meat. No dairy. No animal agriculture. Period. The HSUS income is in excess of one hundred million dollars annually, with net assets over two hundred million.

Bank of America can hopefully find an actual charity, one that does do something for animals, rather than sponsor a group that does nothing for animals and limits an individual’s right.
