EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Vertical tillage and corn varieties will take center stage at a field tour hosted by Michigan State University (MSU) Extension Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. in Williamston.
The tour will take place at the Aaron Jorgensen farm, 2215 Dietz Road, and include demonstrations of 10 kinds of reduced or alternative tillage implements in action on wheat stubble.
“Farmers have seen this type of equipment on display at farm shows such as Ag Expo, but they rarely have the opportunity to see someone operating the equipment in a field environment,” says Dan Hudson, MSU Extension agriculture and natural resources educator based in Ingham County.
“This demonstration will give farmers an opportunity to see these pieces of equipment operating side-by-side on wheat stubble and help them determine which, if any, are best suited to their particular needs.”
Following the tillage demonstration, participants will move over to the MSU corn variety trial plots, also located on Jorgensen’s property. Here they will have dinner, tour the plots, and participate in a discussion and yield-estimating contest.
The tour is free, but participants are asked to RSVP to ensure adequate seating and food.
