With harvest season underway, farms can potentially turn into accident zones if workers are not careful to slow down and watch for hazards first, before doing their jobs.
Glen Blahey, provincial farm safety co-ordinator for Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI), said it's important to take the time to pay attention to ag safety.
“Harvest time is generally the busiest time of the year,” he said. “As we get busier, we tend to overlook procedures and sometimes take shortcuts, and not take as much time in planning our process.”
Blahey remarked farm safety really starts at the beginning of the day, by planning ahead to help avoid any mishaps or potential injuries later.
