Farm equipment dealers are working with SIAST (Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology) to ensure a future supply of employees.
13 students are enrolled in the Agriculture Machinery Technician Program at the SIAST Kelsey campus in Saskatoon.
About 80 per cent come from rural areas. The majority are recent high school graduates. Program Head Rick Jakes says the students work on all type of farm equipment, such as tillage, seeding, forage, engines, power trains and high clearance sprayers. Most of the equipment is donated by farm dealerships.
