Houston, we have a problem with Canola + Screwworm in U S Cattle!

A wet weather forecast for the Canadian Prairies this weekend into next week could result in flooded just planted acres plus unseeded canola acres!

New screwworm detected in Texas could devastate the tight U.S. cattle herd.

U.S. $ Index breaking above $100 while the CDN $ breaking below 72 cents.

Bitcoin once a rising star is back to testing support at 60,000 and the 200-DMA at 61.989.

Broadcom revenue disappointment set off a rotation out of tech stocks ruining the AI party.

Looks like tough times for negotiating CUSMA as the deadline for July 1 will come and go.

Short-term weather forecast remains non-threatening with a warm/wet forecast but long-term looks hot/dry for July/August/Sept for U.S. corn belt.

Three Generations of Care for the Land, the Cattle and the Future of Farming

At Van Osch Farms, the family raises Ontario corn-fed beef while working with the land to keep their operation strong for the next generation. From upcycling corn distillers in their feed program to powering their farm with rooftop solar (producing enough electricity for 80 homes), their approach is rooted in continuous improvement.

Their commitment to responsible farming practices earned them The Environmental Stewardship Award, recognizing producers who go above and beyond in caring for their land and animals.

It's another example of how Ontario farmers are helping build a sustainable future for Ontario beef.

Veteran Farmers: A Legacy of Service in Rural America

Veterans Day is a time to honor the men and women who have selflessly protected our freedoms and values. And for some, the transition from military service to civilian life brings them back to the farm.

At Farm Bureau, we believe it’s important to not only celebrate veterans but also those who continue to make a difference in agriculture and their community. We've partnered with Farm Credit to establish the Veteran Farmer Award of Excellence to shine a light on those who have continued to go above and beyond to serve their communities.

This year, we recognize retired Colonel Joe Ricker as the inaugural Veteran Farmer Award of Excellence winner. Joe served over 30 years in the Army before retiring from the Pentagon and completing tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Since leaving the Army, his commitment to excellence in farming and enriching the lives of veterans has blossomed in a myriad of ways in both his local community of Wilkinson, Indiana, and across the country. Joe grows apples and raises bees on his farm in Indiana. Joe founded “Veterans IN Farming,” an organization, now with more than 1,100 members, dedicated to providing veterans in Indiana with the tools and training to succeed in agriculture.

The American Farm Bureau Federation is an independent, non-governmental, voluntary organization, comprised of and directed by farm and ranch families who engage in all types of food, fuel and fiber production.

Baling My Lawn For The First Time Ever

Today we take our cheap, old hay equipment and try to bale hay from our lawn clippings for the first time ever. This was harder than I thought!! Have you ever done this before? We hope to get "Moe" back to mowing soon! This was a team effort between all colors and kinds of equipment. This was a great learning experience as we've never done anything like this before. Would you try this? Thank you for hanging out with us on this beautiful Friday, we'll see you next time!

How Did This Happen… Late Night Disaster!!

We started the day with some spraying ahead of the corn planter, then we transitioned over to the bean planter. While we were running the bean planter, the corn planter was hard at work all day. After days of grinding, we finally sealed the deal and finished up the very last of our corn planting!

Everything was running flawlessly until late into the night. Just as we were wrapping up, disaster struck—a massive flat tire on the sprayer… We were able to get the sprayer off the road safely and into the field. What a day!

My name is Michael Wendling, and I am proud to be a 6th-generation farmer carrying forward a family legacy that began in 1879 here in East Central Illinois.

Today, our operation focuses on raising food-grade corn for Frito-Lay and also soybeans. While the tools and technology have evolved, our core values remain the same: hard work, integrity, and a deep respect for the land we steward. Thank you for following along and supporting the journey.
