Ag Buyer's Guide | November 2026

100 www.Farms.com/UsedFarmEquipment Ontario | November 2026 According to Farm Credit Canada's (FCC) mid-year farmland values review, Canadian cultivated farmland values continued to advance in 2026, although at a slower pace than in recent years. Farmland values in Canada increased 3.8 per cent during the first half of the year and were up 7.0 per cent year-over-year, reflecting continued demand for agricultural land despite a more selective buying environment. Ontario was among the provinces showing the most significant moderation in growth. Cultivated farmland values increased 2.4 per cent through the first half of 2026 and were up 3.2 per cent compared to a year earlier. Market activity remained relatively subdued as many producers adopted a wait-and-see approach, delaying purchases until crop performance and yield potential became clearer. Demand continued to be concentrated on productive, high-quality farmland, with purchases largely driven by operational requirements rather than aggressive expansion strategies. While competition remained strong for select properties, buyer caution and limited land availability contributed to a slower overall pace of appreciation. FCC's analysis highlights a shift in farmland market momentum across Canada. Provinces including Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia experienced their strongest growth during the broad-based farmland boom between 2021 and 2023. In many cases, those earlier peaks have since been followed by a more pronounced cooling of annual growth rates. The rapid gains recorded during that period were supported by elevated commodity prices, strong farm profitability, favourable export demand, and intense competition for available farmland. As economic conditions have become more challenging, land markets have increasingly returned to a steadier and more regionally driven pattern of growth.
