A leading tire manufacturer introduced a new line designed for modern agricultural equipment.

Attendees at Ag in Motion in Saskatoon, Sask. received their first look at Michelin’s new AxioBib2 tires yesterday.

They are high-traction capacity radial VF (very high flexion) tires for mid- and high-powered tractors.

The AxioBib2 is also CTIS (central tire inflation system) ready. Farmers can use CTIS to control tire pressures from their tractor cabs.

The CTIS capabilities allow the tires to operate at low pressure rates, which have added benefits, said David Graden, agriculture operational marketing manager for Michelin.

“The tires have exceptional field traction and performance,” he told Farms.com today. “They can run as low as 9 psi in singles and 6 psi at field operating speeds in duals.”

Aside from traction benefits, operating at the AxioBib2 tires at low psi levels may also help growers increase yields, Graden said.

“The University of Illinois did a study on soil compaction and impact on yield,” he said. “Researchers have seen about a 4.3 percent yield gain in corn by using Michelin tires.”

Producers should take a practical approach to selecting tires.

Much like purchasing a car, testing the tires before buying them will give farmers an idea of how the tires handle and if they will be a worthwhile investment.

“Farmers are getting hit with everything at every angle,” Graden said. “Go drive on the tire, tell us what you think and how you feel about it. It’s the best way to know if the tire is right for your equipment or your farm.”

The AxioBib2 is available in 710/60R42 and 600/60R30 sizes. More sizes will be available in 2019.

Michelin also introduced its CrossGrip radial tire for road, grass and snowy conditions.

The tire is designed for loaders, backhoes, telehandlers and tractors. It has 196 tread blocks per wheel rotation and an optimized tread depth to reduce damage during the growing season.

Farmers can purchase the CrossGrip as of Aug. 1. The tires are available in 250/80R16, 400/80R24, 440/80R24 and 440/80R28 sizes.
