Swine Production Technician

Metzger Veterinary Services is a growing veterinary clinic serving livestock producers in Ontario. We are a clinic of 9 veterinarians that focus on serving beef and swine operations. We are based in Linwood ON, with a satelite location in Chesley, ON. We are progressive in offering a wide scope of services to our customers.

Job Location: Linwood ON

Job Description: The swine team of Metzger Veterinary Services is growing and expanding the range of services offered to its clients. We are looking for a technician to play an integral role in the services offered to the swine clients. Job duties would include farm visits, health reviews, diagnositic sample collection, implementing heath protocols, generating and carrying out health/production plans, attending industry events, reviewing performance records and completing quality assurance programs as required by Canada Pork Council.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have experience in the swine industry and be comfortable interacting with farm owners and their employees. The candidate must be willing to work off-site independently with no direct supervision. The candidate must be willing to collect diagnostic samples from live pigs as well as conduct post-mortem sample collection under guidance and training of a veterinarian. The candidate should have a high level of skill using Microsoft Word and Excel. Job specific training will be provided as required. Post-secondary training such as a degree/diploma in Agriculture or Animal Science is an asset but not required.

Compensation:

Starting wage of $24 - $28 per hour depending on qualifications. Fuel and vehicle will be provided for off-site work. A competitive company benefit package will be provided.
