Webinar: Key Factors Diminishing Soybean Yield.

Sep 07, 2016

From  The Plant Management Network

Price fluctuations of soybean grain has increased the importance of maximizing yield and eliminating factors that hinder plant growth.

The Plant Management Network (PMN) has released a new presentation entitled "Limitations of Soybean Yield" to help consultants, growers, and other practitioners identify common environmental and production factors reducing soybean yield and take steps to diminish their impact.

The webcast, developed by Laura Lindsey, Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University, discusses research that analyzed the importance different practices, leaf and soil samples, and pest populations had on soybean yield among growers in Ohio. Results showed that crop rotation and row width, as well as levels of pH, sulfur, and manganese had minimal impact on productivity.

According to the findings, soybean yield was diminished when:

Phosphorus and potassium were below critical levels

Soybean cyst nematode population densities were elevated

Planting took place before mid-May

The 12-minute presentation will remain open access through September 30 in the Focus on Soybean webcast resource.
