Farms.com met with Jeff Loessin, category leader for Corteva Agriscience™, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, at the recent London Farm Show in London, Ont., to discuss the new Enlist E3™ trait for soybeans.

Corteva Agriscience™ is introducing these new soybeans, which are tolerant of 2,4-D choline, glyphosate, and glufosinate, in Eastern Canada in 2019.

“This will provide a much-needed option for weed control for Eastern Canadian farmers,” Loessin explained.

“We’ve seen excellent results from both the herbicide and from the yield of the Enlist E3 soybeans.”

James C. Collins, Jr., the CEO of Corteva Agriscience™, provided details on this new technology in a recent release.

“Enlist E3 soybeans are industry-leading triple-stack herbicide-tolerant soybeans that allow Corteva Agriscience™ to better serve farmers with complementary seed and crop protection products."

The Enlist E3 trait is engineered to work with glufosinate and glyphosate herbicides, as well as the new 2,4-D choline in Enlist Duo herbicide.

Enlist Duo manages hard-to-control broadleaf weeds and grasses using a combination of 2,4-D choline and glyphosate.

Enlist Duo is designed to give producers more control over the product, with formulation enhancement to ensure that it stays put once applied.

“The new 2,4-D choline has advanced properties to minimize the potential for physical drift along with the volatility or vapour drift of the herbicide,” Loessin explained.

Growers may apply Enlist Duo herbicide to post-emergence Enlist E3 soybeans to help manage glyphosate-resistant weeds. Due to the additional glufosinate tolerance, producers can use three post-emerge herbicide modes of action in their Enlist E3 soybean fields.

Producers can also use a preplant conventional herbicide for a base level of weed control.

“Being able to use different modes of action is going to increase the longevity of the Enlist weed control system and help farmers maintain this tool that they need,” Loessin told Farms.com.

“We believe that this stewardship approach will help maintain the system so that we don’t lose this tool that we’re gaining,” Loessin explained.

Corteva Agriscience™ is introducing the Enlist E3 trait in Canada in Brevant seed brand varieties in 2019 and in Pioneer brand varieties in 2020.
