Food Processing Research and Innovation: Ottawa and Quebec Announce $50,000 in Financial Assistance to Fou du Cochon et Scie Inc.

Quebec City, Quebec – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec are providing assistance of up to $50,000 to Fou du Cochon et Scie Inc. in Sainte-Anne-de-La-Pocatière to support it with a major research and innovation project. The aim of this project is to characterize the native microflora in order to define the distinctive character of the taste and thus be able to reproduce this unique flora in new sausage products.

This financial assistance was granted under component 3 of the 2013–2018 Innov'Action agroalimentaire program of the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation, under the Canada-Quebec Growing Forward 2 agreement. This component focused on enhancing product and process innovation in food processing.

Mr. Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of Agriculture Agri-Food, Mr. Lawrence MacAulay, and Mr. Norbert Morin, MNA for Côte-du-Sud, on behalf of Mr. Laurent Lessard, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, made the announcement stating that the aim of the Innov'Action agroalimentaire program is to encourage research and innovation in the agri-food sector by increasing the competitiveness of businesses in agriculture and food processing sectors.

This project is also in line with the guidelines of the Quebec 2018–2025 Bio-food Policy – Alimenter notre monde, particularly in the promotion and enhancement of Quebec's bio-food products in order to rely on successful, sustainable and innovative companies to feed our world.
