Machinery Sales Remain Strong Despite Drought.

U.S. tractor sales were good in July; the Association of Equipment Manufacturers reports 14,846 tractors were sold in the country last month. That is a 13 percent increase compared to July of 2011. 14,345 were two-wheel-drive units, up 12.6 percent from last year while four-wheel-drive sales totaled 501 units up 24.3 percent from July of 2011. More than half of the tractors sold were under two-wheel-drives under 40 horsepower.

Year-to-date tractor sales are running 7.5 percent ahead of last year, two-wheel-drive sales are up 7.6 percent and four-wheel-drive sales are 4.7 percent higher.

There were 1,035 self-propelled combines sold in July compared to 854 a year ago. Year-to-date combine sales are trailing 2011 by 15.7 percent.

Canadian tractor sales totaled 1,958 in July up 9.1 percent from a year ago. Two-wheel-drive sales were 9.5 percent higher at 1,907 while four-wheel-drive sales were down 5.6 percent at 51. Year-to-date tractor sales in Canada are running 4.8 percent ahead of last year. Self-propelled combine sales are running 18.1 percent behind last year.
