Pork producers looking to increase their workforce are encouraged to attend Manitoba Pork’s employee recruitment seminar on June 28 in Winnipeg.

Attendees can learn which questions they’re legally allowed to ask during an interview, where and how to find the best candidates, and the cost of hiring staff.

The seminar can benefit anyone in the agricultural industry since finding front line workers can be challenging, according to Janice Goldsborough, human resources and training coordinator with Manitoba Pork.

“The general farm labourers seem to be one of the harder positions to find,” she told Farmscape.ca on June 23. “I know that our pork (producers), especially the independent producers, have a very difficult time because they have competition from other organizations…”

And recruiting is an important element of an organization’s workforce plan, said Goldsborough.

The seminar begins at 9:00 a.m. on June 28 at Terracon Place in Winnipeg.

There is a $20 registration fee, which includes a continental breakfast and reference manual.

Anyone interested in attending should call Manitoba Pork at 204-237-7447 or contact Janice Goldsborough at 204-471-6530.
