There's no reason to rush with seeding canola, according to the Manitoba agronomist with the Canola Council of Canada.
"The biggest message right now is be patient, but it's a good time to be getting yourself prepared. Make sure your seed and fertilizer is going to be there for you when you're ready to go. Get the drills out, check your hoses and openers, just be prepared," says Angela Brackenreed.
"What kinds need to be doing right now is measuring soil temperatures. For canola you want to see at least 4 to 6 degrees before you start seeding," she says. "Get out there twice a day - 8am and 4pm - for at least three days in a row to see what's happening with the temperature."
