Producers Invited To Learn More About Feedlot Software

By Denise Schwab, Sherry Hoyer

Northeastern Iowa cattle producers can learn more about an upcoming revision of a feedlot monitor software program at three meetings offered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Denise Schwab, extension beef specialist, said cattle feeders have used the Iowa State Feedlot and Cost Monitoring Software to track costs, profits and performance since 1982.

“The software continues to reflect the philosophy that feeders need to objectively measure, monitor and react to changes based on existing and past livestock and financial performance,” Schwab said. “One major change in the revised version will allow for individual animal monitoring and projections as is necessary for heifer and bull development.”

The informative training meetings will be held

  • Feb. 17, 1-4 p.m., Clinton County Extension Office, 400 E. 11th Street, DeWitt
  • Feb. 20, 1-4 p.m., Jones County Extension Office, 800 N. Maple St., Suite 2, Monticello
  • Feb. 20, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Buchanan County Extension Office, 2600 Swan Lake Blvd, Suite A, Independence

There is no cost to attend and participants are not required to buy the software in order to attend. Reservations should be made by contacting Schwab either by phone at 319-472-4739 or email at dschwab@iastate.edu, as space is limited.
