The University of Guelph has introduced a new scholarship program at its Ridgetown Campus.

The Agri-Food Entrance Scholarships will be awarded for the first time during the 2021 fall semester to incoming students in agriculture, environmental management and horticulture programs.

Students don’t need to apply for the scholarships, said Liz Meidlinger, manager of communications with Ridgetown Campus.

“The scholarships are based on academic achievement and entrance marks to the campus,” she told Farms.com. “And we’re looking to give out as many scholarships as we can this year after a challenging year for students.”

Each scholarship is worth $1,500, the school welcomes new applications for fall 2021 to these academic programs.

The Ontario Agricultural College, Ridgetown Campus and valued community donors have helped fund the scholarships. And the school will distribute scholarships based on academic achievement, funds available, and the applicant pool.

“We are thankful to the generous donors who have supported the new Agri-Food Entrance Scholarships so far,” Grant Craven, co-chair of the Ridgetown Campus Agri-Food Foundation, said in a statement. “We are currently in the launch phase, with a focus on finding additional donor support for this fall. We welcome additional charitable gifts from individuals or organizations interested in supporting the new initiative.”

Providing these scholarships to students is important.

It recognizes their hard work and helps them meet their career goals, Meidlinger said.

“It’s really important to help students move forward in the next phase of their academic and life learning journey,” she said.

Anyone looking for more information about the scholarship program can attend a virtual open house.

The campus will be hosting the event on Wednesday, April 21 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“Students will have the opportunity to meet our student recruiter, meet some academic program coordinators and hear from current students as well,” said Meidlinger.

To register for the webinar, contact the student recruiter or call 519-358-9542.
