USDA AMS Weekly Shell Egg Demand Indicator

January 9, 2013
Demand for shell eggs remains strong with good interest from retail and food service sectors. Wholesale shell egg prices are fully steady for moderate offerings, supplies, and trading. Breaking stock prices remain unchanged for moderate to heavy supplies and offerings; market activity is slow, schedules are normal. The preliminary sample of supermarket featuring into next week indicates a marked increase in activity with a higher-trending average ad price an no documented use of no price purchase incentives. Shell eggs are enjoying good interest, particularly from retail supermarkets. While promotional activity at retail is focused largely on specialty types, featuring of conventional eggs continues at a more active pace than this time a year ago.
