USDA reports that this year’s U.S. corn and soybean development is near normal, but both harvests continue to run slower than average.
As of Sunday, 94% of corn has reached maturity, compared to 100% this time last year and the five year average of 95%, with 39% harvested, compared to 85% a year ago and 53% on average. 60% of corn is in good to excellent condition, with 26% called fair and 14% rated poor to very poor.
94% of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 98% last year and 97% on average, and 63% is harvested, compared to 79% a year ago and 69% on average. 57% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape, with 29% in fair condition and 14% called poor to very poor.
79% of this year’s winter wheat crop is planted, compared to 80% last year and 80% on average, and 53% has emerged, compared to 48% a year ago and 54% on average. 65% of winter wheat is rated good to excellent, with 31% in fair shape and 4% said to be poor to very poor.
40% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, compared to 21% this time last year.
