25 “Our mission is to increase the profitability of crop production on every front at once: cutting irrigation demand, stopping fertilizer loss, lifting yield, and protecting soil from erosion.” Today, Green Evolution Technologies operates with a team of roughly 20 employees and maintains its production facility in Fresno, California, where products are manufactured and commercial trials are conducted across the country. The company works with partners throughout the US and is focused on scaling technologies that address some of agriculture’s most pressing resource-management challenges. Bringing Decades of Research to the Field While hydrogel technologies are not new, Green Evolution Technologies argues that previous products often struggled to gain traction in mainstream agriculture because of cost. According to Dr. Godsey, the underlying science behind InteliGel has been under development for more than five decades. “The science underneath this technology has been in development for more than 55 years—this is not something that appeared overnight,” he commented. “What changed is that our co-CEOs, Argina Mardiyan and Zarzand Alaverdyan, found a way to take that long body of research and commercialize it here in the United States at a cost and scale that finally make sense for commodity agriculture.” That commercialization effort has become a central differentiator for the company. Rather than targeting only specialty crops, Green Evolution Technologies is positioning the technology for broad-acre row crop production, where economics often ultimately determine adoption. Historically, hydrogel products could cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars per acre, limiting their use. Godsey pointed out that Green Evolution Technologies has focused heavily on reducing manufacturing costs so the technology can become practical for growers managing large acreages. A Platform Rather Than a Single Product Although InteliGel is marketed as a hydrogel, Green Evolution Technologies views it as something larger. “Right now, that mission runs through InteliGel, our cornerstone hydrogel. But it’s important to understand that InteliGel isn’t a single product — it’s a platform. The same core technology can be tuned to deliver water, hold nutrients, and eventually carry other inputs directly to the root zone,” said Dr. Godsey. “We’re building the delivery system agriculture has needed for a long time.” The product functions as a superabsorbent polymer capable of capturing and storing significant quantities of water. According to the company, InteliGel can absorb up to 3,000 times its weight in water, creating a reserve that becomes available to plants as soil moisture declines.
