KLA : Young Stockmen Meet In Topeka For First Installment

The 2010 KLA Young Stockmen’s Academy (YSA) will begin today, bringing with it 20 producers from 19 Kansas counties. Resflor Gold from Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health will be partnering with KLA to host members in their 20s for a series of four seminars throughout the year.

During this week’s session, attendees will be exposed to various aspects of the legislative process, media and services provided by KLA. KLA staff and WIBW-Topeka farm broadcasters Kelly Lenz and Greg Akagi will present an interactive session on the importance of producers utilizing various media outlets to deliver a positive message on behalf of the beef industry. Jody Donahue, a beef producer from Fredonia, also will be on hand to provide examples of how she uses social media to connect with consumers. Members will attend a Senate Ag Committee meeting at the Capitol. The group also will take part in the association’s legislative meeting, where they and other KLA members will determine positions on individual bills under consideration.

The second installment of the YSA class will be held in July. Members will tour Kansas beef operations to gain a better understanding of each industry segment.
