USDA : Weekly Export Sales Highlights


This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period May 21-27, 2010.

Wheat:  Net sales reductions of 53,200 metric tons resulted as increases for Mexico (32,800 MT), Brazil (28,300 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Algeria (21,700 MT, including 20,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Japan (15,700 MT), Colombia (11,500 MT), and Canada (7,100 MT), were more than offset by decreases for unknown destinations (149,500 MT), Venezuela (20,800 MT), Nigeria (5,100 MT), and Trinidad (5,000 MT).  Net sales of 294,300 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for Mexico (86,600 MT), unknown destinations (54,000 MT), Guatemala (26,200 MT), Israel (23,500 MT), and El Salvador (20,900 MT).  Decreases were reported for Colombia (2,200 MT).  Exports of 300,000 MT were down 48 percent from the previous week and 37 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (72,100 MT), Nigeria (61,700 MT), Mexico (58,700 MT), Costa Rica (26,100 MT), Brazil (25,300 MT), and Colombia (25,000 MT).  

Corn:  Net sales of 198,700 MT for delivery in 2009/10--a marketing-year low--were down 81 percent from the previous week and 84 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (267,600 MT, including 143,300 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 6,600 MT), South Korea (70,800 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from Japan and 9,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Saudi Arabia (40,700 MT, including 36,900 MT switched from unknown destinations), Israel (36,000 MT), Mexico (34,500 MT), Venezuela (23,200 MT), and Tunisia (22,300 MT, switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (233,300 MT), Colombia (83,700 MT), and Cuba (25,000 MT).  Net sales of 114,400 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for South Korea (60,000 MT) and Japan (54,400 MT).  Exports of 1,226,600 MT were down 1 percent from the previous week, but up 19 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (448,000 MT), South Korea (172,300 MT), Taiwan (168,700 MT), Mexico (136,000 MT), Venezuela (63,700 MT), and Saudi Arabia (40,700 MT). 

Barley: There were no sales reported during the week.  Exports of 2,100 MT were to Canada (1,700 MT) and Mexico (300 MT).

Sorghum: 
Net sales of 10,800 MT were reported for unknown destinations (6,100 MT) and Mexico (4,700 MT).  Exports of 48,600 MT were to Mexico (48,500 MT) and Canada (100 MT).

Rice:  Net sales of 22,000 MT--a marketing-year low--were down 52 percent from the previous week and 65 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (5,500 MT), Haiti (5,000 MT), the United Kingdom (3,000 MT), Canada (1,300 MT), Jordan (1,300 MT), and Israel (1,300 MT).  Exports of 57,800 MT were down 27 percent from the previous week and 31 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (24,800 MT), Japan (14,900 MT), Honduras (3,600 MT), South Korea (2,800 MT), Canada (2,100 MT), and Taiwan (1,600 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 135,000 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 23 percent from the previous week and 55 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (57,200 MT), Turkey (20,000 MT), Venezuela (20,000 MT), unknown destinations (17,400 MT), and Taiwan (11,900 MT).  Decreases were reported for Japan (500 MT).  Net sales of 13,100 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico (10,300 MT) and Japan (2,800 MT).  Exports of 149,100 MT were up 3 percent from the previous week, but down 34 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (75,100 MT), Japan (52,100 MT), Indonesia (7,300 MT), Colombia (3,900 MT), and Barbados (2,600 MT). 

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 115,400 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up noticeably from the previous week and 62 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for unknown destinations (35,400 MT), Australia (25,100 MT), Mexico (20,300 MT), Honduras (11,100 MT), and Canada (10,600 MT), were partially offset by decreases for the Dominican Republic (9,200 MT), Guatemala (6,500 MT), Colombia (4,000 MT), and Peru (2,600 MT).  Net sales reductions of 24,800 MT for 2010/11 resulted as increases for Canada (200 MT), were more than offset by decreases for unknown destinations (25,000 MT).  Exports of 193,200 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and 79 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (35,000 MT), Australia (26,100 MT), Venezuela (23,700 MT), Japan (17,100 MT), and Canada (16,100 MT).  

Soybean Oil:
  Net sales of 3,700 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 71 percent from the previous week and 50 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (2,400 MT), Canada (900 MT), and the Dominican Republic (300 MT).  Net sales of 1,300 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico.  Exports of 7,600 MT were down 50 percent from the previous week, but up 4 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Jamaica (4,000 MT), Mexico (2,500 MT), Canada (900 MT), and Trinidad (200 MT).  

Cotton:  Net Upland sales of 204,800 running bales for delivery in 2009/10 were down 15 percent from the previous week and 10 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (71,800 RB), Turkey (51,200 RB), Mexico (27,500 RB), Colombia (9,300 RB, including 2,200 MT switched from South Korea), and Indonesia (9,000 RB, including 300 MT switched from Japan).  Decreases were reported for South Korea (1,200 RB).  Net sales of 217,800 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for China (116,900 RB), Indonesia (66,900 RB), Turkey (62,100 RB), and Mexico (37,100 RB), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (129,100 RB).  Exports of 329,100 RB were up 15 percent from the previous week and 27 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (119,600 RB), Turkey (76,900 RB), Mexico (21,200 RB), Taiwan (15,400 RB), Thailand (13,000 RB), and Bangladesh (12,500 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 1,200 RB were up 3 percent from the previous week, but down 56 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (800 RB), Indonesia (300 RB), and Pakistan (100 RB).  Net sales of 12,700 RB for delivery in 2010/11 resulted as increases for Indonesia (3,200 RB), Japan (3,100 RB), and India (3,000 RB), were partially offset by decreases for Switzerland (900 RB).  Exports of 4,300 RB were up 11 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were India (1,500 RB), China (1,000 RB), Turkey (800 RB), and Indonesia (500 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 440,600 pieces were reported for delivery in 2010, down 5 percent from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide sales of 440,600 pieces were mainly for China (237,100 pieces), South Korea (79,200 pieces), Hong Kong (34,100 pieces), Mexico (24,800 pieces), and Japan (16,600 pieces).  Exports of 557,100 pieces were up 24 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 551,100 pieces were primarily to China (226,700 pieces), South Korea (149,500 pieces), Taiwan (48,300 pieces), Hong Kong (30,200 pieces), and Thailand (23,400 pieces).

Net sales of 172,400 wet blues for delivery in 2010 were up 69 percent from the previous week and 80 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were Italy (68,000 unsplit), China (50,100 unsplit), and Thailand (26,400 unsplit).  Exports of 137,200 hides were primarily for China (62,000 unsplit), Italy (14,700 unsplit and 7,400 grain splits), Thailand (7,000 unsplit), and the Dominican Republic (6,500 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 864,000 pounds reported for Hong Kong (896,900 pounds) and Italy (4,800 pounds), were partially offset by decreases for South Korea (22,200 pounds), Vietnam (13,000 pounds), China (1,500 pounds), and Indonesia (900 pounds).  Exports of 1,860,100 pounds--a marketing-year high--were mainly for Hong Kong (946,900 pounds) and South Korea (444,500 pounds).

Beef: Net sales of 7,900 MT were down 55 percent from the previous week and 47 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (3,100 MT), Japan (1,400 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), Canada (900 MT), Hong Kong (700 MT), and Taiwan (600 MT).  Exports of 11,500 MT were primarily for Mexico (3,200 MT), South Korea (2,000 MT), Japan (2,000 MT), Canada (1,200 MT), and Russia (1,200 MT).

The bin build is up against it now. We've run out of room in the old system using the old dryer. The new dryer and new bins are not yet ready to use. Harvest holdups usually include weather and breakdowns, but this time we're sitting idle because we just have no place to go with our crop. And the harvest we have done has been really inefficient with no grain cart!
