USDA : Weekly Export Sales Highlights

Wheat:  Net sales for the 2010/11 marketing year, which began June 1, totaled 118,300 metric tons.  Increases reported for the Philippines (50,000 MT), Mexico (40,300 MT), Nigeria (23,300 MT), and Colombia (22,900 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Japan (25,200 MT) and unknown destinations (2,100 MT).  A total of 982,900 metric tons in sales were carried over from the 2009/10 marketing year, which ended May 31.   Exports for the period May 28-31 of 286,100 MT brought accumulated exports to 21,686,300 MT, down 17 percent from the prior year’s total of  25,973,000 MT.  The primary destinations were Japan (46,500 MT), the Philippines (45,000 MT), Nigeria (40,900 MT), Peru (38,400 MT), and Taiwan (34,000 MT).  Exports for June 1-3 totaled 145,600 MT, with Nigeria (60,400 MT), Brazil (26,000 MT), Japan (25,800 MT), and the Dominican Republic (15,100 MT) being the main destinations.  

Corn:  Net sales of 1,018,800 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up noticeably from the previous week and 20 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (310,200 MT, including 127,300 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 4,700 MT), South Korea (267,600 MT), Egypt (135,200 MT), Mexico (72,800 MT), Taiwan (65,100 MT), Morocco (52,100 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Syria (50,800 MT, including 44,800 MT switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (90,900 MT) and Guatemala (20,300 MT).  Net sales of 143,500 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for unknown destinations (85,400 MT) and South Korea (58,000 MT).  Exports for own account were reported for Mexico (2,000 MT).  Optional origin sales of 61,600 MT were reported for Taiwan.  Decreases were reported for the Dominican Republic (10,000 MT).  Exports of 911,900 MT were down 26 percent from the previous week and 19 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (275,200 MT), Mexico (173,000 MT), South Korea (112,800 MT), Peru (78,300 MT), China (60,000 MT), and Syria (50,800 MT). 

Barley: Net sales for the 2010/11 marketing year, which began June 1, totaled 2,400 MT were for Canada.  A total of 17,000 MT in sales were carried over from the 2009/10 marketing year, which ended May 31.  There were no exports reported for the period May 28-31, brought accumulated exports to 77,600 MT, down 64 percent from the prior year’s total of 215,000 MT.  Exports of 400 MT were for Mexico during the period of June 1-3.

Sorghum: Net sales of 43,300 MT were reported for Mexico (62,800 MT) and unknown destinations (1,600 MT).  Decreases were reported for Japan (21,000 MT).  Net sales of 17,300 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico.  Exports of 21,900 MT were to Mexico (14,900 MT) and Japan (7,000 MT).

Rice: Net sales of 23,200 MT were up 6 percent from the previous week, but down 54 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Saudi Arabia (10,200 MT), the United Kingdom (7,500 MT), Haiti (6,900 MT), Nicaragua (6,000 MT), and Canada (3,100 MT).  Decreases were reported for Turkey (9,000 MT), Jordan (4,100 MT), and Mexico (1,300 MT).  Exports of 83,400 MT were up 44 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Nicaragua (10,300 MT), Turkey (9,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (9,400 MT), El Salvador (9,200 MT), and Costa Rica (7,600 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 420,600 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up noticeably from the previous week and 60 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (336,000 MT), Indonesia (79,000 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 500 MT), Mexico (34,000 MT), Costa Rica (11,100 MT, including 10,100 MT switched from Guatemala), and the Philippines (7,900 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (46,000 MT) and Guatemala (10,100 MT).  Net sales of 130,000 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for unknown destinations (70,000 MT) and China (60,000 MT).  Exports of 168,000 MT were up 13 percent from the previous week, but down 12 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Indonesia (77,900 MT), Mexico (44,200 MT), Syria (17,000 MT), Costa Rica (11,100 MT), and Taiwan (10,500 MT).  

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 49,700 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 57 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Turkey (13,200 MT), Morocco (11,600 MT), the Dominican Republic (7,500 MT), the French West Indies (6,800 MT), and Canada (6,500 MT).  Decreases were reported for Guatemala (8,300 MT) and unknown destinations (8,000 MT).  Net sales of 24,400 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for unknown destinations (24,000 MT) and Canada (400 MT).  Exports of 72,600 MT were down 62 percent from the previous week and 30 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Canada (18,900 MT), Morocco (14,600 MT), Turkey (13,200 MT), Guatemala (6,900 MT), and Costa Rica (5,400 MT).  

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 12,200 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Venezuela (8,000 MT), Nicaragua (2,600 MT), Guatemala (1,000 MT), and Mexico (500 MT).  There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11.  Exports of 2,800 MT were down 64 percent from the previous week and 68 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (2,300 MT) and Canada (400 MT). 

Cotton:  Net sales of 624,200 RB--a marketing-year high--for delivery in 2009/10 was up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (533,400 RB), Mexico (32,400 RB), Turkey (18,900 RB), Taiwan (13,800 RB, including 200 RB switched from Turkey), and Thailand (12,300 RB, including 400 RB switched from Japan).  Decreases were reported for South Korea (6,100 RB) and Vietnam (5,900 RB).  Net sales of 198,700 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were mainly for Vietnam (63,900 RB), China (51,100 RB), and Mexico (35,100 RB).  Exports for own account were reported for China (16,000 RB).  Exports of 225,700 RB were down 31 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (113,100 RB), Turkey (26,100 RB), Mexico (14,900 RB), Thailand (9,800 RB), South Korea (8,800 RB), and Indonesia (8,600 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 300 RB--a marketing-year low--were down 76 percent from the previous week and 87 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Pakistan (200 RB) and Bangladesh (100 RB).  Net sales of 900 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were for Germany.  Exports of 1,900 RB--a marketing-year low--for delivery in 2009/10 were down 56 percent from the previous week and 57 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Pakistan (800 RB), India (400 RB), and China (400 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 283,500 pieces, all whole cattle hides, were reported for delivery in 2010, down 36 percent from the previous week and 39 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were for China (134,900 pieces), South Korea (84,000 pieces), Mexico (28,200 pieces), Vietnam (18,000 pieces), and Hong Kong (6,100 pieces, including 4,200 pieces switched from Japan).  Exports of 429,300 pieces were down 23 percent from the previous week and 15 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hide exports of 428,400 pieces were primarily to China (155,800 pieces), South Korea (107,900 pieces), Taiwan (45,600 pieces), Hong Kong (44,400 pieces), and Thailand (17,900 pieces).

Net sales of 185,100 wet blues for delivery in 2010 were up 7 percent from the previous week and 64 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary buyers were China (119,700 unsplit), Mexico (16,000 grain split and 100 unsplit), Thailand (13,200 unsplit), Vietnam (12,000 unsplit), and Hong Kong (7,600 unsplits and 200 grain split).  Exports of 144,500 hides were primarily for China (62,300 unsplit), Italy (37,300 unsplit), Mexico (16,100 grain splits and 2,700 unsplit), and the Dominican Republic (4,800 unsplit).  Net sales of splits totaling 500 pounds resulted as increases for China (2,000 pounds) were partially offset by decreases for South Korea (1,100 pounds) and Italy (1,000 pounds).   Exports of 140,500 pounds were to South Korea (54,500 pounds), Italy (43,000 pounds), and China (43,000 pounds).

Beef: Net sales of 6,400 MT were down 19 percent from the previous week and 53 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Canada (2,000 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), Taiwan (1,100 MT), Mexico (1,000 MT), and Japan (800 MT).  Exports of 10,400 MT were primarily to Mexico (2,400 MT), Japan (2,100 MT), South Korea (2,100 MT), Russia (900 MT), and Vietnam (900 MT).
