Cow-Calf Conference Offers Timely Information for Producers

Cow-calf producers and others interested in cattle production will find valuable, research-based information at the 2010 Southern Illinois Beef Conference set for Thursday, July 8, at Rend Lake College, Ina.

"This conference is an excellent opportunity for cow-calf producers to gain practical knowledge that will enhance their ability to improve management decisions," said Teresa Steckler, University of Illinois Extension animal systems specialist.

These topics will be presented:

•Forage-Based Supplement Programs for Growing Calves by Justin Sexten, University of Missouri Extension specialist
•Breeding Programs that Meet Carcass Trait Requirements by Doug Parrett, U of I animal scientist
•Alternative Forages to Extend the Grazing Season by Rebecca Atkinson, Southern Illinois University animal scientist
•5-day Co-synch Program by Teresa Steckler, U of I Extension beef specialist
•Helmentic Resistance to Pour-Ons by Sherrie Clark, U of I Veterinary Medicine
The conference begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the program starts at 9:15 a.m.

Registration is $15 and is due by July 2. The fee includes morning and afternoon refreshments, a noon meal and conference materials. Late and on-site registration is $20. Lunch is not guaranteed for late and on-site registration.
