Producers Hope Agreement Will Open New Markets For Alberta Beef

The province is introducing a way to help livestock producers enter more valuable markets.

The government, along with Alberta's cattle industry, have reached an agreement that will provide the foundation for livestock tractability. Alberta Minister of Agriculture, Jack Hayden calls the agreement historic.

"What makes it really important is that industry will get it," he says. "They (producers) understand the value of traceability, not only for our domestic market but more importantly, so we can export  to new customers besides the United States."
