KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The equine program at the Missouri Livestock Symposium will include Wyoming’s Ken McNabb. McNabb, a favorite on RFD-TV, is a respected, accomplished, competition-winning clinician who will give two talks at this year’s symposium, Dec. 3-4 in Kirksville.
His talks will be on “Understanding Equine Behavior” and “Purchasing the Perfect Horse.” McNabb is often described as “a true blue cowboy” who knew from a very young age that his calling was horsemanship and teaching. Today, McNabb holds clinics nationwide and speaks to enthusiastic audiences all around the country.
Ken has competed in and won equine events including the 2007 Colt Starting Challenge in Vancouver and the prestigious Trainers Challenge Colt Starting Competition in 2008, topping Charles Wilhelm and three-time champion Doug Mills from Canada. McNabb encourages people to ride taller, dream bigger and live happier.
Joining McNabb on the program will be Tim Potter from North Carolina, Shannon Reed of Columbia, Mo., and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service grasslands specialist Mark Kennedy. Kennedy will speak about developing and maintaining high-quality horse pastures. Reed will discuss and demonstrate the Lameness Locator equipment developed at the University of Missouri, and Potter will cover “It’s All About Safety” and “Fact and Fiction in Feeding Horses.”
The Missouri Livestock Symposium is free and no pre-registration is required. “All you need to do is saddle up and head to Kirksville Middle School, 1515 S. Cottage Grove, Kirksville,” said Garry L. Mathes, chairman of the symposium committee. “If there is a better deal for horse enthusiasts anywhere, we don’t know about it.”
There will also be programs on forages, beef, stock dogs, sheep, meat goats and various other interesting topics. There will be a free evening meal on Friday, Dec. 3, and a free governor’s-style luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 4. Becky Blackaby (www.beckyblackaby.com) will close the program Saturday evening with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert can be purchased by calling 660-665-9866.
