ACPC Supports Open Marketing of Canola

The Alberta Canola Producers Commission (ACPC) supports the marketing of canola by farmers in an open market.

A statement that was posted on the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA) website implied that on November 18, 2010 the ACPC participated in a discussion to work out the details of how the CWB would market canola on a voluntary basis. This was not an accurate description of the discussion, which was essentially the MCGA informing the other groups what it was doing. The statement has since been removed.

"The ACPC Board appreciated being invited and attended only for the purpose of being informed of the MCGA initiative," says Ward Toma, ACPC General Manager." This is something MCGA is doing by itself; the ACPC has not worked with them on it and no Alberta canola producer levy money is being spent on it."

The ACPC supports the marketing of canola by farmers in an open market as it always has been done, and advocates within the grains and oilseeds industry and to government that it remains that way.
