USDA: Weekly Export Sales Highlights

Wheat:  Net sales for the 2011/12 marketing year, which began June 1, totaled 477,700 metric tons.  Increases reported for Japan (251,500 MT), the Philippines (77,500 MT), Nigeria (63,500 MT), Indonesia (61,000 MT), and South Africa (31,800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Yemen (55,000 MT), unknown destinations (50,400 MT), and Colombia (6,100 MT).  A total of 1,815,500 metric tons in sales were carried over from the 2010/11 marketing year, which ended May 31.  Exports for the period May 27-31 of 455,000 MT brought accumulated exports to 33,438,500 MT, up 54 percent from the prior year’s total of 21,686,300 MT. The primary destinations were Japan (133,600 MT), China (57,800 MT), Iraq (51,000 MT), Chile (36,500 MT), Colombia (33,000 MT), and Peru (32,100 MT).  Exports for June 1-2 totaled 142,900 MT, with Taiwan (37,500 MT), South Africa (31,800 MT), Nigeria (27,900 MT), and Spain (22,200 MT) being the main destinations.    

Corn:  Net sales of 320,300 MT were down 32 percent from the previous week and 48 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (89,300 MT, including 97,600 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 26,000 MT)China (56,900 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Spain (55,000 MT, including 50,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Syria (55,000 MT), Mexico (37,200 MT), and the Netherlands (30,000 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (187,000 MT), the French West Indies (7,800 MT), Honduras (3,600 MT), and Jamaica (3,200 MT).  Net sales of 29,900 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were reported for Japan (48,800 MT).  Decreases were reported for Mexico (18,800 MT).  Exports of 1,004,000 MT were up 12 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (295,100 MT), Japan (291,700 MT), South Korea (115,500 MT), China (58,900 MT), Spain (55,000 MT), and the Dominican Republic (40,600 MT).  

Barley:  Net sales for 2011/12 marketing year, which began June 1, totaled 1,100 MT were for Taiwan (600 MT) and Canada (500 MT).  A total of 300 MT in sales were carried over from the 2010/11 marketing year, which ended May 31.  There were no exports reported for the period May 26-31, which brought accumulated exports to 100,300 MT, up 29 percent from the prior year’s total of 77,600 MT.  Exports of 2,800 MT were for Canada during the period of June 1-2.

Sorghum:  Net sales of 75,500 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and up 25 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (74,500 MT) and unknown destinations (10,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Israel (9,000 MT).  Net sales of 36,000 MT for delivery in 2011/2012 were for Mexico.  Exports of 63,200 MT were to Mexico.

Rice:  Net sales of 113,800 MT were up 81 percent from the previous week and 91 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (39,200 MT), Costa Rica (35,000 MT), Haiti (14,200 MT), Liberia (8,000 MT), and El Salvador (6,600 MT, including 1,500 MT switched from Honduras and decrease of 1,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for Honduras (1,500 MT).  Exports of 77,800 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and up 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (27,200 MT), Mexico (21,000 MT), Haiti (7,100 MT), El Salvador (6,100 MT), and Saudi Arabia (3,000 MT).

Soybeans:  Net sales of 120,500 MT were up 46 percent from the previous week and 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Mexico (95,800 MT), China (48,400 MT), Japan (24,900 MT), Taiwan (12,100 MT), and Colombia (6,000 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (55,000 MT) and Indonesia (24,200 MT).  Exports of 173,100 MT were down 35 percent from the previous week and 29 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily to Mexico (65,100 MT), China (60,600 MT), Indonesia (17,400 MT), Taiwan (10,600 MT), and Japan (7,000 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 60,500 MT were up 74 percent from the previous week, but down 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Venezuela (16,800 MT), Morocco (15,600 MT), Guatemala (12,700 MT, including 11,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), Canada (8,500 MT), El Salvador (7,100 MT, including 6,500 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Mexico (3,100 MT).  Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (8,800 MT) and the French West Indies (4,200 MT).   Exports of 91,000 MT were down 17 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were the Dominican Republic (28,200 MT), Mexico (16,400 MT), Canada (15,300 MT), Guatemala (12,700 MT), and El Salvador (7,100 MT).  

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 10,100 MT resulted as increases for Venezuela (10,500 MT, including 8,500 MT switched from unknown destinations and 2,000 MT switched from Panama), Mexico (7,000 MT), Nicaragua (2,400 MT), and Haiti (1,400 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (8,500 MT) and Panama (2,000 MT).  Exports of 12,600 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and 44 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Venezuela (11,000 MT), Canada (700 MT), and Mexico (700 MT).

Cotton:  Net Upland sales reductions of 143,200 RB resulted as increases for Pakistan (8,700 RB), Mexico (4,800 RB, including 3,100 RB switched from Colombia and decreases of 500 RB), and Vietnam (800 RB), were more than offset by decreases for China (51,600 RB), Thailand (24,400 RB), Peru (23,700 RB), Bangladesh (20,100 RB), Turkey (16,300 RB), and Indonesia (10,800 RB).  Net sales of 24,500 RB for delivery in 2011/2012 were mainly for Peru (23,700 RB), Thailand (20,400 RB), Bangladesh (20,000 RB), Indonesia (8,900 RB), and Japan (400 RB).  Decreases were reported for China (44,300 RB) and Pakistan (4,400 RB).  Exports of 211,000 RB were up 5 percent from the previous week, but down 24 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (58,300 RB), Turkey (33,700 RB), Mexico (20,700 RB), South Korea (15,600 RB), and Brazil (12,900 RB).  Net American Pima sales of (600 RB) resulted as increases for China (300 RB, switched from Japan), Bangladesh (300 RB), Italy (200 RB), Belgium (100 RB), and Thailand (100 RB), were partially offset by decreases for Japan (200 RB) and unknown destinations (200 RB).  Exports of 8,500 RB were primarily to China (5,700 RB), Pakistan (1,100 RB), Germany (600 RB), and Japan (500 RB).  Note:  Accumulated exports were adjusted down for pima cotton sales for Pakistan (8,300 RB), China (5,600 RB), Peru (4,300 RB), India (2,700 RB), Japan (2,300 RB), Italy (2,100 RB), Thailand (900 RB), Taiwan (900 RB), and South Korea (300 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 394,600 pieces were reported for delivery in 2011, down 21 percent from the previous week and 27 percent from the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hides of 394,400 pieces were primarily for China (159,800 pieces) South Korea (74,700 pieces, including 2,300 pieces switched from China and decreases of 2,100 pieces), Vietnam (36,900 pieces), Thailand (32,500 pieces), and Italy (28,100 pieces).  Exports of 471,200 pieces were up 25 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hides exports of 464,300 pieces were primarily to China (225,900 pieces), South Korea (98,100 pieces), Italy (43,500 pieces), Vietnam (23,800 pieces), Mexico (17,700 pieces), and Taiwan (17,300 pieces).                

Net sales of 58,200 wet blues for delivery in 2011 were primarily for South Korea (13,000 grain splits and 9,700 unsplit), China (19,600 unsplit), Vietnam (4,800 unsplit), and Mexico (4,200 grain splits).  Decreases were reported for Japan (200 unsplit and 100 grain splits).  Exports of 141,500 hides were primarily to China (47,300 unsplit and 3,100 grain splits), Italy (38,900 unsplit and 3,200 grain splits), Mexico (10,600 grain splits and 3,700 unsplit), and Thailand (8,000 unsplit and 5,500 grain splits). 

Net sales of splits totaling 429,400 pounds were for South Korea (304,600 pounds) Hong Kong (44,000 pounds), Italy (42,200 pounds), and Indonesia (38,600 pounds).  Exports of 200,500 pounds were to South Korea (150,500 pounds) and Hong Kong (50,000 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 9,100 MT for delivery in 2011 were primarily for Canada (2,500 MT), Japan (2,200 MT), Mexico (1,100 MT), Vietnam (900 MT), and Taiwan (800 MT).  Exports of 13,900 MT were mainly to Japan (3,100 MT), South Korea (2,400 MT), Mexico (2,200 MT), Russia (1,500 MT), and Canada (1,400 MT).
