Rail Reg's To Come Today

Aug 01, 2014

The regulations supporting the rail legislation passed by the federal government this spring are expected to be made public and come into force today, coinciding with the start of the new crop year.

Bill C-30 was introduced and passed to address the problems with grain transportation by rail in western Canada over the last year.

Many of the details, including fine amounts, contract structures and service definitions, could be addressed in the regulations. Some stakeholders are hoping the rules also address volume requirements for different shipping routes.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz is supposed to be in Saskatoon today to announce the regulations coming into force.
