Video: Managing Body Condition of Beef Cows to Improve Profit

Feb 11, 2015

Reproduction is the most important factor affecting profitability for cow-calf producers, and body condition has the greatest impact on reproduction. Beef cows managed at a body condition score (BCS) of 2.5-3.0 on a 5-point scale have higher calving rates, lower calving intervals, show estrus more quickly after calving and produce higher quality and quantity milk. This means more calves, and heavier calves through to weaning. It pays to manage cows in the right condition year-round.
