Video: Meet the Queen Bee at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

Jun 03, 2015

Meet the queen bee from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. She alone is the mother of all the bees that live in the Museum’s observation bee hive. Unlike her daughters, the worker bees, she does not leave the hive to forage and she doesn't elaborate honey. Her one and only job is to lay eggs. It’s easy tell her apart form the other bees as she's much bigger. If you watch her long enough, you may see her inspect a cell and lay an egg in it, something she does hundreds of times every day.
