Northwest potato farmers are bracing for what could be a tough year. Nearly every field in the Columbia Basin in Eastern Washington is a-buzz with activity. Farmers on tractors are pruning, plowing and planting like mad.
Correspondent Anna King caught up with a potato farmer near Eltopia, Washington.
Under the sparkling sun, Ted Tschirky watches a tractor pulling a potato planter in his field.
It burns around his 100-acre irrigated circle depositing potatoes with a shot of fertilizer. Neat furrows ripple behind the tractor like wakes off speed boats.
